Advanced fiber materials mimicking human hair

Advanced Fiber Materials Mimicking Human Hair. Seeking innovative fiber materials that mimic the properties of human hair for use in beauty and skincare products, enhancing performance and consumer experience.

What we are looking for:

Advanced fiber materials that closely mimic the structure, texture, strength, and appearance of human hair, suitable for integration into beauty and skincare products to improve functionality and sustainability.

Must have Requirements are:

  • High similarity to human hair in mechanical properties (e.g., tensile strength, elasticity, flexibility).
  • Biocompatible and safe for cosmetic use on skin and hair.
  • Compliance with regulatory standards for beauty and skincare products (e.g., FDA or EU regulations).

Nice-to-have requirements are:

  • Sustainable or bio-based sources for environmental friendliness.
  • High durability and resistance to moisture, heat, and chemical treatments.
  • Demonstrated performance in real-world beauty applications.
  • Cost-effective production at scale.

Out of scope:

  • Non-fiber materials or those not mimicking human hair properties.
  • Applications outside beauty and skincare, such as medical or industrial uses.
  • Materials requiring significant modifications to existing production processes.

Please note: Faculty and researchers interested in applying for these opportunities based on technologies developed or disclosed at Vanderbilt must submit their proposals through the CTTC.
