Jim Weimer develops software and systems that bring machine learning and AI safely into the real world—especially in medicine. At Vanderbilt, he leads the Internet of Medical Things Lab and co-directs innovation initiatives bridging computer science, biomedical engineering, and clinical care. His research supports safer, more predictable performance of medical devices, leading to technologies that enable early intervention, personalized treatment, and reduced clinical risk.
A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Weimer has co-founded Neuralert, a noninvasive stroke detection system named one of TIME’s Best Inventions, and Vasowatch, a maternal health solution aimed at preventing postpartum hemorrhage. He is the recipient of both an NSF CAREER Award and an ARPA-H contract to secure medical device software. His work exemplifies the translation of high-impact academic research into lifesaving, commercially viable health technologies.
