Seeking Next-Generation Flame Retardants

Background

ICL Group, a global leader in bromine- and phosphorous-based flame retardants, is seeking novel flame retardants for various applications including electronics, vehicles, textiles, and paints and coatings. They are particularly interested in halogen- and PFAS-free FR polymer materials and replacements for antimony trioxide as a synergist to brominated FRs.

Approaches of interest:

  • Phosphorous-containing FRs
  • Inorganic FRs
  • Nitrogen-containing FRs
  • Hybrid system FRs
  • Nanodimensional FRs
  • Bio-based FRs

Out of scope:

  • Metal oxide FRs

The company is interested in opportunities from TRL 3 (proof of concept) onwards, with priority given to those validated in industry standard tests (e.g. UL 94, LOI). Collaboration opportunities include licensing, investment, and research collaborations, with potential funding of $100,000 for up to one year to develop a proof of concept.
