FemtoSci licenses nano-diamond technology from Vanderbilt

Nashville-based International FemtoScience, Inc. exclusively licensed functionalized nano-diamond based composites technology from Vanderbilt University. This is the second license for the company and expands on similar technologies licensed in November of 2013.

According to FemtoSci President and Principal Engineer Jim Davidson, nano-diamonds have a number of potential applications, from transformer cooling oil to drug delivery.

"These nano-diamonds are extremely compatible with a number of host materials," said Davidson, "and they can significantly improve the performance of the host, whether it’s oil, plastic, chemo drugs, and other materials."

The company was formed by Prof. David Kerns, previous Chair of Vanderbilt's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and former Acting Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, and Davidson, Professor Emeritus of Vanderbilt's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
