Additive manufacturing for nutritional supplements

The initiative aims to address the challenges faced in the production of VMS components by leveraging cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies. Proposals should focus on advancements that enable the rapid, cost-effective, and high-quality production of complex VMS parts. Emphasis is placed on solutions that can integrate with existing manufacturing workflows and meet the stringent requirements of mission-critical applications.

What we're looking for:

Looking for additive manufacturing technologies that can enable the production of personalized VMS (vitamins, minerals, and supplements) for both internal manufacturing optimization and customized consumer experiences.

Must-have requirements are:

  • 3D-printing systems for personalized tablet/capsule production
  • Systems enabling layered or compartmentalized delivery in a single supplement
  • Micro-dosing additive platforms for capsule personalization.

Nice-to-have requirements are:

  • Supports individual dose customization of multiple active ingredients within a single unit
  • Compatible with VMS raw materials in powder, gel, or semisolid form
  • Enables production of ingestible formats such as tablets, capsules, gummies and powder
  • Clear rationale for how ingredient integrity will be preserved during manufacturing (e.g., protection from heat, pressure, and/or light)

Out of scope:

  • Enables multi-phase or timed-release dosing formats
  • Compact or modular design for easier integration into existing operations
