Grant set to support Georgiev’s research to identify new antibodies

Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Ivelin Georgiev, PhD, has received a three-year, $750,000 award from The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation of Rye Brook, New York, to support research aimed at rapidly identifying potent, disease-fighting antibodies.


A “public” target for HIV

Individuals produce unique sets of antibodies in response to HIV infection. That diversity — and the ability of the human immunodeficiency virus to rapidly change its protein coat to avoid detection — has stymied efforts to develop an anti-HIV vaccine.
