Kevin Johnson of Biomedical Informatics named Hall of Fame inductee by Nashville Technology Council

The Nashville Technology Council (NTC) has officially announced that Kevin Johnson, Chief Informatics Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor and Chair of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University, will be inducted into the NTC Hall of Fame for 2018.

Johnson is an internationally-respected developer and evaluator of clinical information technology, and a leader in the medical informatics field. As the Chief Informatics Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Johnson has been instrumental in revolutionizing how patients, doctors and care teams share information, leading the charge to develop and implement new technologies across the organization. In his dual role as Chair of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University, he has built a world-leading Biomedical Informatics department, with over 100 associated faculty working to teach, develop and evaluate innovative technologies for the storage, retrieval, dissemination, and application of biomedical knowledge. 

Working with CTTC, several technologies developed by investigators in the Department of Biomedical Informatics have formed the basis for start-up companies as well as technologies that have been licensed to existing companies.

Johnson has been active with the NTC and with the technology community in the region. Kevin has been an active speaker at Tennessee HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) meetings. Tennessee HIMSS and the NTC have a close connection. Kevin has been an annual lecturer for the Belmont Health IT Boot Camp program. Kevin is joining the NTC board of directors.

Johnson is also the author of more than 100 professional publications, and created and produced the documentary "No Matter Where," about the digital transformation of medical records, as told through the stories of Hurricane Katrina survivors.
