nPhase closes on its first round of funding

nPhase, Inc., a startup company that has licensed and is commercializing the “Research Electronic Data Capture” software (“REDCap”) developed by Dr. Paul Harris, Director of the Office of Research Informatics, and others, recently closed on its first round of funding raising just under $2 million. This investment is important because it allows nPhase to complete the development of its commercial version of REDCap that will be used by research universities and companies conducting or participating in clinical trials.

nPhase began development of the commercial version of REDCap before this first round of financing was completed. In addition, the company already has several potential customers who have expressed interest in licensing the commercial version of REDCap immediately upon its availability.

The current non-commercial version of REDCap being licensed by Vanderbilt is used and well-known throughout the world. As of Jan. 8, Vanderbilt had licensed REDCap to 1,718 nonprofit institutions in 96 countries. REDCap had been used in over 217,000 projects with over 303,000 users spanning numerous research focus areas.

The REDCap application allows users to build and manage online surveys and databases quickly and securely, and is currently in production use or development build-status for more than 217,000 projects with over 304,000 users spanning numerous research focus areas across the consortium. Vanderbilt believes the commercial version of REDCap being developed by nPhase will transform the clinical trial market for research institutions as well as for small and mid-size clinical trial organizations and biopharma companies who are its target customers by offering a less costly but equally robust product.

Kudos to Dr. Harris and his team.
